Dharmendra, wanda cikakken sunansa shi ne Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol, ɗaya ne daga cikin jarumai mafi shahara da tasiri a tarihin masana’antar fina-finan Indiya, wato Bollywood. An haifi Dharmendra ne a ƙauyen Nasrali, kusa da garin Khanna a gundumar Ludhiana, lardin Punjab, a ranar 8 ga Disamba, 1935. Asalinsa ya fito ne daga dangi mai biyayya ga al’adun gargajiya na Punjabi, musamman waɗanda suka shafi aikin noma, wanda shi ne ginshiƙin rayuwar mafi yawan jama’ar yankin a wancan lokaci.
Mahaifinsa, Kewal Krishan Singh Deol, malami ne, yayin da mahaifiyarsa, Satwant Kaur, ta kasance matar gida mai renon yara da tarbiyya. A shekarar 2004, jam’iyyar Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ta zaɓe shi a matsayin ɗaya daga cikin manyan ‘yan takararta a jihar Rajasthan.
